It’s official ONE WEEK until my 7th business birthday (and my ACTUAL birthday! 🎈), so I thought it a good time to reflect on 7 lessons I’ve learnt from 7 years in business.
Here goes!

1️⃣ It’s okay to leave money on the table.
In fact, if your goal is flexibility, freedom and creative fulfillment, it might be the best business strategy out there.
There will always be scope to do more.
Be careful, and consider every “yes” in the context of what you are also saying “no” to.
Don’t sacrifice the things you got into business for at the altar of some arbitrary revenue goal that won’t even give you more of what you want.
2️⃣ Traditional business advice might not apply.
Prime example? The ascension model, which teaches you to create a suite of offers from low ticket to high ticket.
My experience is that actually, trying to do BOTH is actually the worst of both worlds.
When you focus on just one, you can spend 80% of your time focusing on EITHER delivery (for high ticket) or marketing/content (for low ticket).
When you try to do both, you will be stretched trying to juggle both, likely won’t do either or one of them well, and will need to hire a team to wrap your arms around it all.
3️⃣ There isn’t one right way of doing business.
Example: High ticket isn’t the ONLY way to freedom (especially if you hate Zoom calls, and high touch — it might be your worst nightmare). On the flip side, lower ticket isn’t either (and if you hate spending your days creating content, it would be hell).
If someone is telling you there is a “right” business model, they are likely trying to sell you theirs. Because it worked for them. Usually, newer players do this, and usually without even REALISING the harm it causes.
As you gain wisdom and experience, it becomes quite clear — it ALL works. But also, it’s about finding the model that works for YOU.
4️⃣ Everything is a solvable problem.
But many times, it’s more that it’s a problem the person doesn’t want to solve.
Example:
Asking if something will work “with a small audience”. It’s a flawed question. Because, GAINING AUDIENCE is a solvable problem. Usually, a better question is whether you WANT to do the work, or the type of work, required to solve that problem. And if you don’t — that’s fine.
But understand that your objection is likely an aversion to doing business a particular way. In which case, find a different way of doing business. Because back to point 3 — it ALL WORKS.
5️⃣ Take the action and the outcome will (eventually) take care of itself.
If something isn’t working in your business, there is one of two reasons for that — you’re not taking the action, or it’s not having the intended outcome.
Whatever you do, keep taking the action. That’s the thing within your control. And if you do that for long enough, assess the results, and change the action if needed, to get the intended result), the OUTCOME WILL ALWAYS COME.
Control the thing you can control. Take the action.
6️⃣ On indecision.
Sitting on the sidelines and wondering will cost you so dearly. Even if something doesn’t end up being perfect, or the perfect decision, you will be SO MUCH FURTHER AHEAD by just taking the action, and figuring that out.
It can feel safe to stay put. To keep your money in the bank. To NOT do something, anything. But honestly? I think that level of inaction is the most dangerous course of action, because it means going BACKWARDS.
7️⃣ Make your success a habit.
Decide the revenue number that means “success” to you. Set up a simple data tracking system. And make it a habit to track your progress every single week. That single habit will propel you to success, because you will see it all in black and white.
Most importantly, track your actions — it will tell you whether they are in alignment with the success you say you want. Chip away.
The only way you won’t get there is if you 1) don’t try; or 2) give up.
It’s not easy. If it was everyone would do it. But, it’s so worthwhile.
